World Environment Day Celebration – A Green Initiative by Our College
Date: 5th June

Every year on the 5th of June, the world comes together to observe World Environment Day, a global platform for raising awareness about environmental issues and encouraging action for the protection of our planet. This year, our college celebrated this significant day with renewed enthusiasm and a strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
The celebration was graced by the esteemed presence of Principal Sr. Anita E Dias and Vice Principal Sr. Iren Savitha Martis, whose leadership and dedication to environmental education have always inspired the institution. The theme for this year’s World Environment Day focused on “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience”, urging communities and institutions to take proactive steps in restoring ecosystems and protecting natural resources.
The event began with a meaningful assembly where students presented a short skit and poem, highlighting the importance of preserving nature and the dangers of environmental neglect. This was followed by a brief address by Principal Sr. Anitha Dias, who emphasized the importance of environmental stewardship. In her speech, she reminded students that the Earth is a shared home for all living beings and that each individual has a moral and social responsibility to protect it.
A symbolic and heartfelt sapling planting ceremony was held on the college premises to commemorate the day. Principal Sr. Anita E Dias, Vice Principal Sr. Irene Savitha Martis, staff members, and new students came together to plant various saplings of flowering. This act of planting was not merely symbolic, but a true gesture of commitment toward creating a greener and healthier campus.
The event also included an eco-awareness pledge where students took an oath to conserve nature, reduce waste, and act responsibly toward the environment. A quiz competition on environmental facts and current issues was organized for the students, and the winners were awarded eco-friendly prizes.
The entire program served as a powerful reminder of our duty towards nature. It not only created environmental awareness among the students but also instilled in them a sense of responsibility and purpose. It was truly heartening to see the active involvement of the new students, who displayed great interest and eagerness in participating in the green initiative. Their participation symbolized the college’s mission to create not just educated minds, but also environmentally conscious citizens of tomorrow.
The day concluded with a vote of thanks and a promise to make every day an Environment Day by living in harmony with nature and making sustainable choices.
