Gandhi Jayanti
On 2nd October 2024, St. Joseph’s PU College, Hunsur, commemorated Gandhi Jayanti with a heartfelt celebration honouring the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of the Nation. The day was marked by a spirit of unity and service, reflecting Gandhi’s values of peace, non-violence, and community service.
The celebration commenced with a Sarvadharma Prayer, emphasizing the importance of harmony among different religions and the need for mutual respect and understanding. Students from various backgrounds came together to recite prayers from different faiths, fostering an atmosphere of inclusivity and peace. This session reminded everyone of Gandhi’s belief in the unity of all religions.
Following the prayer, students participated in Shramadhan, a community service initiative aimed at promoting cleanliness and environmental awareness. The students took part in a cleanliness drive within the college premises and surrounding areas, embodying Gandhi’s principle of selfless service to society. They engaged in activities such as:
- Cleaning the college campus
- Planting saplings
- Collecting waste materials
The combination of the Sarvadharma Prayer and Shramadhan allowed students to engage in spiritual reflection and active service, promoting the ideals of harmony and community service. The event successfully inspired students to reflect on their roles as responsible citizens and to carry forward Gandhi’s legacy in their lives.
